James “JD” Maher, Jr. serves as an Estate Planning Specialist for Archford. In his position, he assists his estate planning team through all the complexities of the job while ensuring that clients receive the best possible service. As a past intern and Archford scholar, he’s been able to witness the firm grow due to the incredible work done by current team members. He looks forward to contributing to this growth in his new role as he dedicates himself to assisting his clients with all their legal and financial needs.

He completed his Bachelor of Science in Finance and Juris Doctorate from the University of Missouri – Columbia. JD is currently working on a Master of Arts in Philanthropy (MA) and a Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP) designation from Indiana University’s Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. During his education, he interned at the University of Missouri Office of Advancement, where he worked on a $1.3 billion-dollar campaign and assisted advancement staff with laying the foundation for a new scholarship fund for the University of Missouri School of Law. He also spent time as a St. Louis Community Foundation intern, through which he provided top-notch customer service to community foundation donors while assisting in the administration of Give STL Day. JD enjoys interacting with different team members and clients while crafting innovative solutions to complete the task at hand.

JD possesses a passion for helping others, driven by his personal experience of receiving two life-saving liver transplants early on in his life. Grateful for the kindness and support he received during those challenging times, he has dedicated his professional journey to making a positive impact on others’ lives. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with friends and family, playing golf, supporting Mizzou, and attending sporting events – especially those where his younger brothers play soccer.
